The Mateship Run is a running event held near Remembrance Day at Currumbin on the Gold Coast, Queensland. Its primary distance is 11.11km, a distance chosen to signify the Armistice that concluded World War One at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Participants can complete this distance individually or join the Mateship Relay in teams of three, with divisions for mixed, all-male, and all-female teams. The event also offers a 5km run and a 2.5km junior race, providing shorter options for families and less experienced runners.
The course runs alongside Currumbin Creek, with the relay commencing at Currumbin RSL. The first runner completes 6.31km before a handover, the second runner covers 2.4km to Dune Cafe, and the third runner runs 2.4km back to Currumbin RSL. These 2.4km legs are a nod to the Australian Forces fitness test, and the total relay distance maintains the 11.11km Armistice reference. All funds raised benefit local veterans, and the race day features live entertainment, children’s activities, and food and drink available at the venue.
