The Portland 3 Bays Running Festival begins at the Portland Basketball Association in Portland, Victoria, taking place over a late-spring weekend along the Great South West coast. The event offers participants a selection of coastal trail races, road races, and team events, including a 60km trail ultra, a 30km coastal trail run, a marathon, a half marathon, a 10.5km quarter marathon, and various relay formats.
The Great South West Walk provides a significant portion of the trail course, with the longer off-road races utilizing primarily single track alongside some beach running. The quarter marathon presents the fastest option on paper, featuring under 40m of elevation gain. The marathon, with approximately 300m of elevation, is one of Victoria’s established road marathons. The half marathon follows the latter half of the marathon route, and the relays cater to children, primary and secondary school teams, four-person teams, and eight-person run-walk groups. The unique 102km Hybrid Fool challenge requires runners to complete the 60km ultra and then a road marathon the following day.
