About this race
Skrzydlaty Bieg is a 5 km airport race held at EPCD Airport in Depułtycze Królewskie, near Chełm in Poland’s Lublin region. Organized by AZS PANS in Chełm, it targets local residents, runners, students, pupils, aviation fans, and adults seeking a short, competitive road-style race in an unusual location. The event has a 200-person limit, requires participants to be at least 18 years old, and features a 50-minute time limit. Competition is divided into women’s and men’s categories, with separate age groups for those up to 26 and over 26.
The route follows a marked asphalt path within the Academic Airport, a functional training facility for pilots from the State University of Applied Sciences in Chełm. This setting is key: runners are positioned near airport infrastructure and aircraft, in a place typically associated with university aviation training rather than public sporting events. The race also connects to the Lublin region’s aviation history, dating back to the 1920s, and is presented as the region’s first race specifically for aviation enthusiasts. Starter packs include a technical shirt, a bib with a timing chip, a finisher medal, water post-race, and a bidon.
