The Hermannslauf begins at the Hermannsdenkmal above Detmold, covering 31.1 kilometers through the Teutoburg Forest to Bielefeld. This running and hiking event features a main start at 11:00 in late April, with a distinct option for walkers who receive gross-time results.
The course concludes at the Sparrenburg-Promenade in Bielefeld, linking two landmarks rather than looping through the city. Competitors are assigned to start groups A through E based on prior Hermannslauf performances or equivalent achievements. Shuttle buses are available from Bielefeld and Detmold train stations to the starting point, as private vehicles cannot access the monument. TSVE 1890 Bielefeld, the organizing body, also offers a bag drop service near the Bismarckstein, managed by THW vehicles.
