The American Legion First State 5k / 1 Mile walk 2026

The American Legion First State 5k / 1 Mile Walk begins at Rail Haus - Beer Garden on North West Street in Dover, Delaware. The morning event includes a 5k run/walk, a 1-mile non-competitive walk, a strictly competitive 5k walking division, and a free Kiddie K Sprint for children. Packet pickup starts at 7:30 AM, the kids' sprint begins at 8:30 AM, and the 5k and 1-mile walk commence at 8:35 AM. The event's slogan is “Run the Road to Democracy,” and participants get small flags in addition to the standard race shirt. The competitive walking division is taken seriously: participants must walk the entire 5k, with no running or jogging permitted. R2R Timing chip-times the race using MYLAPS BibTag, with results available online during and after the event. Awards are given to overall finishers, masters, 10-year age groups from 13-and-under to 80-and-over, top walkers, and the fastest male and female veterans. Following the race, participants can find refreshments, a DJ, and photos posted via Races2Run.
