About this race

A Midsummer Night's Run is part of the Iowa Trail Run Series, taking place in Ames at McFarland Park as summer twilight settles. The 5K begins at 7:30 PM CDT, positioning it as an evening trail excursion rather than a typical morning road race. As with other Iowa Trail Run Series events, participants can expect clear course markings, support along the route, basic timing, and a custom bib. The course features a blend of single track trail, prairie, and gravel, with the event encouraging participants to enjoy the woods after dark. The series offers a relaxed social component: rotating race items like socks, a BUFF, a stocking cap, a mug, or a water bottle, optional Animal Icons shirts, sponsor activities and giveaways, post-race food, and complimentary beer from Singlespeed Brewery. Each series race also includes a free children's run for those 12 and under, typically covering a half mile to a mile. Additionally, $3 from each Midsummer Night's Run registration benefits Conservation Partners of Story County and their efforts in local parks.
