The Chios Night Run begins at the port of Chios, sending runners after dark through the island’s main town. As part of the Mastichathlon program, it provides three race options: a 1,000m for younger participants, a 5K suitable for many, and a 10K for those seeking a longer challenge. The event starts in the evening, with a technical briefing prior and awards later that night, focusing on running under lights instead of a typical morning race.
The course follows an urban night route shaped by the port, town center, and sea air, distinct from a remote trail or countryside path. The participants are intended to include children, beginners, regular runners, and older athletes, with age categories from young adults up to 60+. Entrants get chip timing, a race number, a technical shirt, and a medal bearing the race insignia, along with water, snacks, and a light meal post-finish. Its primary historical note is that this is the inaugural Chios Night Run and the island’s first major night running event.
