About this race
Cyclo-cross involves narrow tires, mud, barriers, and short off-road races typically held in public parks and open areas during autumn and winter. Racers compete on tight circuits instead of extended point-to-point courses, allowing spectators to view repeated laps, intense efforts, obstacles, and the race's challenging conditions up close.
The sport predates mountain biking and spans from local leagues to the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup. Children, club cyclists, veteran racers, and dedicated specialists can all participate in races. Some local events incorporate unique traditions, like Crossmas at Ashlyns School in Berkhamsted, featuring a Santa Claus appearance and awards for the most festive attire.
