About this race

The Pitz Alpine Glacier Trail P90 begins in Mandarfen at 1,675 meters, leading runners into a 1,300-meter ascent towards the Joch of Mittagskogel. This 90 km high-alpine trail race crosses the Pitztal Alps, featuring approximately 5,400 meters of elevation gain and reaching altitudes near 3,000 meters. The race takes place in early August, a time when snow may still cover the upper mountain and glacier conditions are uncertain. It is not a forest-road ultra; the course follows narrow alpine paths, glacier terrain, steep descents, and remote sections where altitude is a significant factor. The initial climb heads towards the pyramid-shaped Mittagskogel. The course then crosses glacier terrain and descends steeply over the Mittelbergferner towards the Gletscherexpress area. Runners proceed via the Notweg to Mittelberg and return to Mandarfen. From there, they go through Hirschtal to Rifflsee, past Plodersee, and along the Fuldaer Höhenweg to Taschachhaus, before returning through Taschachtal. Mandarfen serves as a recurring meeting point, allowing runners to pass the start and finish area multiple times and interact with supporters. The longer P100, P90, and P45 Glacier participants share the high mountain sections, while P30 and P15 runners utilize portions of the same route. The P90 succeeded an earlier Pitztal glacier ultra, maintaining its emphasis on extended, rugged, high-altitude running over a polished road-style event.
