The Mugello Marathon is a 42.2 km road race held in Borgo San Lorenzo, within Tuscany’s Mugello region. The start and finish lines are located in the town center. The event typically takes place on a Saturday, marking the beginning of Italy’s marathon calendar. Established in 1974, it is Italy’s longest-running marathon, with a single cancellation during the Covid pandemic.
The course winds through Mugello towns such as Vicchio di Mugello, San Piero a Sieve, and Scarperia. It includes a unique section within the Mugello Circuit. Participants enter the Ferrari-owned racetrack from the Palagio entrance, run along the internal road adjacent to the track, and then rejoin the valley roads. This is not a flat course; it features approximately 500 meters of elevation gain, making it more suitable for those seeking a challenging run rather than a fast time. Recent races have incorporated SmanApp to enhance runner safety and provide live race tracking for spectators.
