BrockenHeroes is a hill-climb race in the Harz mountains, where participants ascend toward the Brocken, northern Germany's highest peak. It takes place near Schierke in late September, organized by Pro Sport Harz e.V. The event features road-bike and mountain-bike time trials, an uphill run, walking options, and additional bike categories. The day centers on a single objective: reaching the mountain summit as quickly as possible via one's selected discipline.
The primary courses follow roads like the K1356 and Brockenstraße to the Brocken plateau. Distances offered are approximately 11.2 km with 550 m of elevation gain, 6.5 km with 330 m, and a 24 km road-bike route with about 900 m of ascent. An MTB course is also listed at 15 km starting from Wernigerode’s Floßplatz. Weather presents a significant factor, as the Brocken can experience fog, rain, cold, snow, or clear late-autumn conditions. The event includes timing, results, aid stations offering hot and cold beverages, fruit, and bars, along with medical support from DRK and the mountain rescue service.
