Runners start the Pinhoti 100, a point-to-point trail ultra run held each November on the Pinhoti Trail, at Pine Glen Campground near Heflin, Alabama. The 100.38-mile race, limited to 300 participants, begins in the Choccolocco Management Area and concludes on a track in Sylacauga.
The route is predominantly unpaved, featuring approximately 81 miles of singletrack, 17 miles of jeep road, and 4 miles of pavement. Participants will navigate rocks, creeks, and ridgelines within Talladega National Forest, including Cheaha Mountain, Alabama's highest point at roughly 2,408 feet. While not presented as a beginner-friendly 100-miler, many runners new to the distance still participate, drawn by the challenge of completing the entire course without prize money.
