The 6 Hours of Power at Alum Creek State Park is a winter trail running series held on two Sundays in January and February. The races take place on the Rocks and Roots Trail near Lewis Center, Ohio. Participants can select from 10K, 20K, 30K, 40K, or 50K distances. The longer distances begin earlier, with the 10K starting later in the morning. This event is conducted in partnership with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. The organizers describe the trail as the only one in Ohio constructed for runners, by runners. Registration for the series includes both race days, and single-race entry options are also available.
The course consists of two primarily single-track 10K loops arranged in a figure-eight pattern. The north loop runs clockwise, while the south loop proceeds counter-clockwise. The name accurately reflects the terrain, featuring numerous rocks, roots, and stream crossings, with at least one water crossing depending on conditions. Leaves, snow, and mud can obscure the footing. The start and finish are located off Hollenback Road, south of the dog park. Yellow Fleet Feet markers indicate the course direction, and drop bags can be placed at the 10K loop point after each lap. Aid stations provide water, Gatorade, and snacks, with soup available at the finish line. The series attracts trail runners from Central Ohio, including members of the Rocks and Roots Trail Runners Association, who participate in training runs and trail maintenance. All finishers receive medals, series registrants get additional gear, and runners completing the 50K on both days are awarded a belt buckle.
