Long distances, without the pressure of the stopwatch. Sunday, September 22nd in Ostuni, in the province of Brindisi, the fourth Randonnée della Valle d’Itria will take place, covering 214 km, valid this year as the national CSI specialty championship. The first three most numerous teams will be awarded. Three hundred commemorative jerseys are ready in the race pack reserved for participating randonneurs. Approximately two hundred participants have registered for the event, which enjoys the patronage of the Municipality of Ostuni. The start is from the Foro Boario of the "Città Bianca", after only a few kilometers the "panoramic" climb with a view of the beautiful Adriatic Sea. First descent, on the Via Francigena towards Cisternino. Then a passage on the belvedere of Locorotondo, a view of the Valle d’Itria, before reaching the first check at km 40. The route continues towards Borgo di San Marco, then Impalata, and down into the valley through the panoramic descent of Macchia di Monte, where the second control will be carried out at km 75. Still on the pedals, the Panoramica di Monopoli before the Loggia di Pilato to the gates of the beautiful Alberobello. From the capital of the Trulli, the route will cross the countryside of the lower Murgia Barese and the Terra delle Gravine Regional Natural Park. At km 129, the 4th control. Single file, skirting the Bosco delle Pianelle Regional Nature Reserve, you will arrive at "Pentima Rossa", welcomed by Christ the Redeemer overlooking the valley below, with a view of the Gulf of Taranto. Here is the longest climb of the route, towards the beautiful Martina Franca, where, at km 161, the 5th control with refreshment is scheduled. Straight towards Grottaglie, then Ceglie Messapica again, a nice section of rolling terrain, and finally the return towards the town of Ostuni. Final descent after 214 km and about 2,700+ meters of elevation gain, the finish line of the Puglian Randonnée. The regional president of CSI Puglia, Ivano Rolli, will be present at the award ceremony for the Centro Sportivo Italiano.
