Wörthersee Marathon

The Wörthersee Marathon begins and ends in Klagenfurt, sending runners on a 42.195-kilometer circuit around Lake Wörthersee, Carinthia's largest lake. This event series takes place in autumn, centered on the lake. It includes a marathon, a team marathon, the Wild Beauty 21K half marathon, and a walking option. While listed on the World Athletics calendar, the primary audience is hobby runners, recreational athletes, walkers, and those seeking an active day by the water. The marathon route encircles the turquoise lake, featuring more challenging terrain along the southern shore and flatter sections elsewhere. Teams of two to ten can divide the marathon distance. The half marathon follows the Süduferstrasse from Klagenfurt towards Velden, concluding at the Schlosshotel Velden. Slower paces and walking are encouraged, with the Walk the Lake format catering to participants who prefer to move at their own speed. Designated cheering zones, on-course refreshments, medical support, finisher medals, and post-race gatherings at the Runner’s Beach Club contribute to a community atmosphere, moving beyond a purely performance-focused competition.
