About this race
The Salt to Saint Relay challenges cyclists to cover over 420 miles across Utah, from Salt Lake City to St. George. This event is a road relay, not a typical one-day bike race. Teams of eight, teams of four, and solo riders compete to finish the distance as quickly as possible. The ride typically involves around 24 hours of continuous effort, with support vehicles, rapid exchanges, and minimal sleep.
The route travels south on open roads, largely following historic Highway 89. It features approximately 15,000 feet of elevation gain over about 425 miles. Participants begin near This Is the Place State Monument in Salt Lake City, pass through towns like Kanab, and conclude in St. George. Teams determine their own pacing and relay tactics, while solo riders navigate the extensive course with crew assistance and a 34.5-hour time limit.
