About this race
Royal Run is Denmark's royal running and walking festival, held on the second day of Pentecost across several host cities. It is informal by design: people show up in sneakers for One mile, 5 km, and 10 km distances, with the royal family joining the same public event rather than watching from the side. Recent host cities have included Ringkøbing, Randers, Middelfart, Helsingør, and København/Frederiksberg, with over 112,000 participants registered across the day.
The format moves around Denmark, and host cities are announced in the fall. The King may start the day with a One mile, continue with another distance in a different city, and finish with 10 km in København/Frederiksberg, while the Queen and Crown Prince join 5 km events elsewhere. Royal Side Run lets neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, and kindergartens create smaller versions in the weeks before the main event. There is also a MaratonMile challenge, where people run or walk 26 one-mile segments of 1.609 km, leaving them just 361 meters short of a full marathon.
