About this race
Pilliga Pottery on Dandry Road hosts a weekend on the "rugged, ancient trails of the Pilliga Forest," traversing sacred Gomeroi Country. Now in its fourth year, the Pilliga Ultra feels like a trail gathering with a purpose: runners and hikers heading into sandstone escarpments, grass-lined creeks, and country that feels genuinely wild, not staged for a race brochure.
Expect a mix of runnable trail, scrambling terrain, and sufficient time on feet to notice the forest rather than just chase a split. The event is suitable for first-time trail and ultra runners, as well as those who simply want a long, honest day out. Some events are also open to hikers. A distinctive element is the protection of the Pilliga Forest, supporting communities that have been "fighting fossil fuel projects for decades" and using the race to help people experience its inherent beauty as a wild place.
