Grenzgänger Wandermarathon & Trail Run 2026

Grenzgänger is a mountain event based in Weißbach bei Lofer, linking Austria’s Pinzgau with Ramsau bei Berchtesgaden across the border. The marathon starts early in the morning, the Intense Trail begins around 9:00, and shorter trail and relay options follow. The longest trail race is 30.7 km with about 1,446 meters of climbing. Newer options include a 10 km beginner trail and a 17 km relay trail. The Intense Trail starts and finishes in Weißbach, circles much of the Gerhardstein, crosses Hundsfußalm and Litzlalm, then climbs through Kammerlingalm and the “walden.” path toward Kallbrunnalm. After crossing that high alpine pasture, the route drops back through Pürzlbach, Hintertal, and the Klammrückweg to Weißbach. Aid stations are located at Goldener Zweig, Litzlalm, Kammerlingalm, and Kallbrunnalm, with the last one arriving after most of the climbing is done. The event was first planned as a one-off for Weißbach’s mountaineering-village anniversary, but 118 participants and many spectators brought it back; cyclist Toni Palzer and ski mountaineer Hannes Lohfeyer serve as patrons.
