Ravenna Marathon City of Art is a flat road-race weekend in Ravenna, Italy, featuring a 42.195 km marathon, a 21.097 km half marathon, and shorter non-competitive events for walkers, families, schools, and people running with dogs. The race is closely tied to the city’s art and history: marathoners pass eight UNESCO World Heritage monuments, and finishers receive a handmade mosaic medal, a local touch that fits Ravenna’s mosaic tradition. The event typically draws runners along with families, friends, and partners, functioning as both a race weekend and a cultural trip.
Most of the routes remain within Ravenna, while the marathon extends to Punta Marina Terme before returning through the city’s historic core. The course has 0 m of elevation, presenting a challenge of distance rather than climbing. The program also includes Good Morning Ravenna at about 10.5 km, a 2 km Family Run, a 2 km Dogs & Run, and Correndo Senza Frontiere, with some activities held the day before the main races. A race bib also grants free museum entry, pairing the weekend with Ravenna’s Byzantine churches, mosaics, and UNESCO sites.
