The Muriwai Regional Park TrailNav Challenge guides participants through the forest using a map, a time limit, and a clear objective: locate checkpoints and accumulate points. This event takes place in Muriwai Regional Park, blending elements of a trail run, an orienteering competition, and a strategy game. Participants may choose to run or walk, with options for 6-hour, 3-hour, or 90-minute durations. The course layout is not predetermined. Individuals or teams of 2-5 devise their own routes to the checkpoints, selecting which ones to pursue before returning to the start/finish area. Certain checkpoints include surprise challenges for bonus points, meaning navigation is not the sole determinant of a score. The event welcomes families, schools, newcomers, and seasoned adventurers, concluding with a BBQ, awards ceremony, merit prizes for leading teams, and random spot prizes.
