The Porto Marathon takes place annually in Porto, Portugal’s second-largest city. The event includes a full marathon alongside 10 km and 6 km races. The 6 km is a free-pace run, not a timed race, allowing families, friends, and newer runners to participate without competitive pressure. Approximately 15,000 runners participate across all distances, with about 6,300 in the marathon (42.195 km). Both licensed and non-licensed runners can enter.
The route follows the Douro River, offering views of the Atlantic coast and the Gustave Eiffel bridge, integrating the race with Porto’s identity. The marathon, established in 2004, is a major Portuguese running event attracting national and international participants, as well as those running shorter distances. The programme also features the Fun Race and APO Family Race Healthy Bones Run, broadening the weekend beyond the marathon. Conditions are typically favorable, with daytime temperatures between 12°C and 17°C.
